Recent Day of Racial Healing Events

​2026 Annual Event

Our 3rd Annual Day of Racial Healing was held on March 21, 2026, centered on the theme, “How We Heal: Listening to Understand, Honoring Stories, Building Trust.” Hosted by Shalanda Randall, the day featured an opening musical selection, powerful insights from presenter Takesha Brooks, and restorative community-building circles led by guest speaker Pilar Audain. Special thanks to The Rev. Dr. Donnely Dutcher, the coordinating committee, and our community storytellers.

​2025 Annual Event

Our 2025 National Day of Racial Healing was held on January 18, 2025, hosted by the Freeport NAACP Branch 3039. The impactful day centered on a presentation regarding why racial healing matters, deep panel discussions, and local community members bravely sharing personal stories about “Growing Up/Being Black in Freeport, IL.” Breakout sessions provided attendees space for close dialogue, addressing intergenerational trauma, and building local relationships.
